Lavrov confirms Trump received invitation to Russia
Speaking to Rossiya 24 on Tuesday, Lavrov said Trump “has an invitation” and noted that the US leader had described the idea of visiting Russia as “interesting.”
At a joint press conference with Putin last week, Trump acknowledged he could “get a little heat” for such a trip but said he could “see it possibly happening.”
The Alaska summit marked the first face-to-face meeting between Putin and Trump since 2019, focusing on both the Ukraine conflict and US-Russia relations. Both leaders praised the talks, with Putin calling them “frank and substantive” and Trump describing them as “productive.”
On Monday, Trump met with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, alongside European leaders and NATO officials, to discuss potential peace terms with Moscow. Afterward, Trump revealed he had spoken again with Putin and expressed plans to arrange a meeting between Putin and Zelensky, potentially leading to a trilateral summit.
