Fire Erupts Aboard U.S. Navy Vessel Off Okinawa Port
The Japan Coast Guard received an emergency alert at approximately 5 p.m. local time, reporting that the vessel—measuring over 200 meters in length—had caught fire, media reported.
Crew members on board immediately launched firefighting operations and requested assistance from Japanese authorities, the report said.
In response, Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force deployed ships to aid in extinguishing the blaze, while Coast Guard patrol vessels were dispatched to the scene.
Smoke was seen rising from the bow of the vessel, though no injuries have been reported and no evacuation of U.S. personnel has been requested at this time, according to the report.
