France Enforces Tchap Application for All Officials

(MENAFN) France has taken a decisive step to tighten the security of official communications by mandating that all public officials switch to the state-owned instant messaging platform, Tchap, starting Monday, according to media.

The new mandate requires all French state employees and ministries to stop using third-party apps such as WhatsApp and Telegram, which are considered vulnerable, and switch exclusively to Tchap for official communications. This requirement was established in a circular issued by Prime Minister Francois Bayrou over the summer, setting a deadline for the app’s installation by September 1.

Tchap was developed collaboratively by the Interministerial Digital Directorate (DINUM) and the National Cybersecurity Agency (ANSSI) with the goal of safeguarding communication across state administrations. The move underscores France’s urgent push to enhance cybersecurity within its public sector.
