August Sees 22.6 Percent Surge in Imported Car Sales in South Korea
A total of 27,304 foreign-made cars were sold in South Korea last month, a sharp increase from the same period in 2024. The surge was largely attributed to strong consumer appetite for premium and eco-friendly models, especially from American and German automakers.
Cumulatively, sales of imported cars reached 192,514 units from January through August this year — a 13.3% rise compared to the first eight months of 2024, the data showed.
Leading the market was U.S. automaker Tesla, which topped the sales chart with 7,974 units sold in August. German brand BMW followed with 6,458 units, while Mercedes-Benz placed third, moving 4,332 units.
Other notable performers included Volvo with 1,313 units, Audi with 1,263, and Lexus, which sold 1,249 vehicles.
