Over thousand supporters show support to Maduro in Caracas

(MENAFN) Over a thousand people gathered in Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, on Monday evening to express support for President Nicolas Maduro as he made his first court appearance in New York following his capture by US forces. As stated by reports, demonstrators filled the streets of downtown Caracas for what organizers called the “Great March for Venezuela,” vehemently denouncing the US military action and what they described as the forcible removal of their leader.

Participants waved signs and repeatedly voiced phrases including “We want him back,” “Return our working-class president,” “Sovereignty is not negotiable,” and “We will always be loyal to Maduro,” in a show of allegiance and protest against Washington’s intervention. As noted by accounts, similar demonstrations in solidarity with Maduro also took place in other countries, with rallies reported in Cuba, Colombia, and a number of European nations.

At the same time, the situation has sparked contrasting reactions internationally, with opposition leaders and right-wing groups in various parts of the world holding separate rallies in support of the US action. The protest movement reflects the deep polarization over the unprecedented military operation carried out earlier this month, which included airstrikes and a special forces raid that led to Maduro and his wife being transported out of the country to face longstanding charges abroad.

In the wake of his capture, interim leadership in Venezuela has strongly condemned the intervention, and the political landscape remains highly strained as both domestic and international actors react to recent events.
