Trump Calls on Mexico to Intensify Efforts Against Cartels
"Mexico must step up their effort on Cartels and Drugs!" he wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.
The operation took place on Sunday, when Mexican federal security forces launched a military action against the CJNG in the town of Tapalpa, located roughly 130 kilometers south of Guadalajara, the capital of Jalisco state. Reports indicate that cartel leader El Mencho was killed during the confrontation.
In the aftermath of the operation, multiple road blockades and instances of vehicles and businesses being set on fire were reported across Jalisco and neighboring states, believed to be acts of retaliation by the criminal group.
The Jalisco state government advised residents to stay indoors, suspended public transportation, and issued a “red alert” to address threats to public safety. Violence has surged in several Mexican states in recent days, heightening tensions nationwide.
