Kosovo Mentions 2024 Turkish Support Before World Cup Qualifier Clash

(MENAFN) The 2026 FIFA World Cup European Qualifiers play-off final will see the Turkish National Football Team face Kosovo, highlighting the close friendship shared between the two nations and their football teams.

In the lead-up to the match, Kosovan Football’s official X account reflected on a historic moment from 2014, before Kosovo was recognized by FIFA in 2016. “Back in 2014, when no one would face us, Türkiye showed up. They played Kosovo away, before we were even recognized by FIFA—a gesture of respect and love we will never ever forget. 12 years later … we’re on our way to a World Cup final,” the post read, accompanied by photos from that game.

The Turkish team will visit Pristina, Kosovo’s capital, on March 31 for the play-off final. The nations share strong diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties, with the capital even featuring a “Kosovo-Türkiye Friendship Park.”

During the 2014 friendly match, the Turkish National Football Team defeated Kosovo 6-1 in an away game, a gesture that remains celebrated in Kosovo’s football history.
